Save our seabirds: Shearwater colony clean-up

June 9, 2023 1:48 pm

Date: Friday, 11 August 2023
Time: 17:00-22:00
Location: Salina Nature Reserve (meeting point)

Join us for a remarkable event dedicated to celebrating International Youth Day with the BirdLife Malta Education and LIFE PanPuffinus! project teams! We are looking forward to spending an unforgettable and impactful evening with enthusiastic Maltese youths at Salina Nature Reserve!

The event kicks off with an engaging quest focused on Scopoli’s Shearwaters (Ċiefa), a unique seabird species nesting on the Maltese Islands. This thrilling quest will challenge your attentiveness, leadership and observation skills. Once we complete the quest, we will proceed to the colonies of Scopoli’s Shearwaters, where we will partake in a small clean-up activity to contribute to the conservation of their habitat. As the evening progresses, we will witness the breathtaking beauty of the sunset and take a moment to listen to the enchanting calls of the shearwaters.

This will be an opportunity to connect with nature, gain insights into the local ecosystem, and make a positive impact on the environment.

This event is part of the It’s Time project which aims to form a local youth environmental leaders group and equip them with skills and knowledge to initiate and lead a series of meaningful actions to protect nature in the Maltese Islands and worldwide, and the Clean Up the Med campaign by NGOs, schools, universities and citizens to safeguard the Mediterranean Sea.
