Għadira Nature Reserve will reopen to the public for the first time after the summer break with a special Open Day full of workshops, guided sessions and interactive activities.

  • 10am-1pm: Warden for a day (with booking) for children 8-12 years old, €10 per child  THIS ACTIVITY IS FULLY-BOOKED

Għadira Nature Reserve

Love nature and wildlife? Why not become a junior warden for a day and help our reserve team with their duties? During this one-off session, the children will learn and explore the wetland of Għadira with hands-on activities such as monitoring the reserve lagoon, ringing demonstrations, birdwatching and some management work.

Participants should bring a packed lunch, suitable clothing including strong shoes, waterproof clothing and sun protection. Parents should also return the signed parental consent form which is provided here. The form should be returned to [email protected] after the booking is placed.

Since the number of places for this particular event is very limited (maximum of 10 children) we urge those interested to book immediately. Booking for this activity is now closed.

  • 11am-12pm, 1pm-2pm: Beginners guide to birdwatching (with booking) for children 8+ years and adults, suggested donation of €2 per participant

Ever wanted to try birdwatching but never had the confidence? Why not join BirdLife Malta to learn how to spot and identify some of the amazing birds found around the island? This one-hour workshop (two sessions) will include some fun interactive activities to help develop your observational and identification skills. There will also be a chance to talk to some of our experienced birdwatchers, who will provide some useful technical information that will help you get the most out of your new skills. Equipment will be provided but feel free to bring your own binoculars.

We will have two sessions with a maximum number of 20 participants per session, so book now to avoid disappointment. Click here to place your booking. You can choose your preferred session.

  • 1pm-4pm: Birdwatching (no booking needed)

After 1pm the reserve will remain open for the public till 4pm. During this time an opportunity will be provided to do some birdwatching with the help of experts in the field. There will also be self-led activities such as quizzes and scavenger hunts available from the Visitor Centre. There is no need to book for this event.

This Open Day and the one at Simar Nature Reserve the following day will mark the reopening of our nature reserves after the summer break. From the following weekend (Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th November) both nature reserves will be open again for the public every weekend between 10am and 4pm (Simar is open on Saturdays, Għadira on Saturdays and Sundays).
