Victoria Lines Nature Walk

January 17, 2019 3:07 pm

Date:            Sunday, 17 February 2019

Time:           09:00-13:00

Location:     Mġarr Parish Church (meeting point)

BirdLife Malta’s Events & Activities Committee will be organising a nature walk starting from Mġarr, and proceeding to Fomm ir-Riħ, Kunċizzjoni, Dwejra and returning to the village of Mġarr. Most of the walk will be along the Victoria Lines.

The 12km-long epic Victoria Lines stretch from coast to coast, across the north of Malta, providing stunning views to both the north and south coast from the numerous vantage points high above the valleys on either side. This line of forts and defences was built by the British and were completed in 1897, the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, hence their name. The line was built to protect the towns and harbours to the south from any invasions to the north across the wide open lowlands.

Meeting point

Our meeting point will be the parish square in Mġarr. We shall meet in front of the parish church at 09:00 sharp to commence our walk. This is a moderate to difficult walk with some inclines. Appropriate footwear is recommended as the areas we will be visiting can be slippery if wet.

Participation and booking

Participation is open to all (BirdLife Malta members will be given priority). Booking will be on a first-come, first-served basis. To register please send an email to [email protected]. If you are a BirdLife Malta member please quote your full name and membership number. Bookings for this event will be accepted until Sunday 10th February 2019 unless full capacity is achieved at an earlier date.

Although participation is free, donations are welcome.
