Autumn migration is upon us! Many familiar (and maybe new) species will be joining us for a brief period here in Malta, making it the perfect time for us to observe and appreciate them. Therefore, in honour of Eurobirdweek, we are hosting 2 bird ringing sessions at Buskett on Sunday, October 4th.
First bird ringing session will be from 7:30-8:30. Participation is FREE, however please register here or via this link: https://forms.gle/j67XDzaDxYaRBZT4A
Second bird ringing session will be from 8:30-9:30. Participation is FREE, however please register here or via this link: https://forms.gle/dT9uWjoK5GrJfPWe9
Why EuroBirdwatch?
EuroBirdwatch brings people together to celebrate migration and raise awareness about the challenges migratory birds face. Through guided birdwatching activities and events held across Europe, participants can observe migration in action while learning about the importance of conserving birds and their habitats.
During these events, observations of migrating birds are collected and shared with BirdLife International, contributing to a continent-wide snapshot of migration.
In 2025, EuroBirdwatch involved 34 BirdLife partners and nearly 25,000 participants across Europe.
How it all began
The roots of BirdLife International date back to 1922, when the International Council for Bird Preservation (ICBP) was founded in London as the world’s first international nature conservation organisation. After a major restructuring, the organisation became BirdLife International on 3 March 1993.
Later that year, BirdLife launched World Birdwatch, its first global awareness campaign, with partners in more than 100 countries joining forces to celebrate birds and conservation. In Europe, the event also included coordinated bird counts and participation tracking.
