To mark World Water Monitoring Day, celebrated annually on 18 September, join us at Simar Nature Reserve and discover what is really in the water of a nature reserve.
The initiative began in the United States in 2002 as National Water Monitoring Day and developed into World Water Monitoring Day in 2003. It was created by America’s Clean Water Foundation, in partnership with the International Water Association and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to raise public awareness of water quality and encourage communities worldwide to monitor and protect their local rivers, lakes, wetlands and coastal waters.
Throughout the day, our European Solidarity Corps volunteers and Visitor Assistants will demonstrate some of the equipment used to study water quality at Għadira Nature Reserve. Visitors will learn about key water parameters, how measurements are taken and why changes in water conditions can affect aquatic plants, invertebrates, birds and other wetland wildlife.
The activity will be available on an ongoing basis between 10:00 and 16:00, allowing visitors to join at any point during their visit.
The event is free, family-friendly and open to everyone. No advance booking is required.
