Biodiversity & Endangered Species Weekend (Saturday)

May 19, 2026 1:30 pm

Date: Saturday 23rd, 2026
Time: 10.00-16.00
Location: Għadira Nature Reserve

Before our doors close for the Summer, come on over to explore, learn, and reconnect with Malta’s wildlife at our reserves. In honour of Endangered Species Day (May 15th) and the International Day for Biological Diversity (May 22nd), we are hosting a special open day at the Għadira (May 23rd) Nature Reserve.

🌱 What’s waiting for you:
🔍 Red List Discovery Trail
Pick up your Nature Passport and explore the reserve while uncovering species — which ones are safe, and which are at risk?
🧱 Extinction Jenga
Pull a block… and see how human actions can impact entire ecosystems.
🖍️ Design a Survivor
Create your own bird that can adapt to the ever-changing environments — fun, creative, and surprisingly challenging.
🦎 Chameleon Count at Għadira Nature Reserve
Keep your eyes sharp and help us spot Mediterranean Chameleons around the reserve — a fun challenge for all ages!

Want come for the entire day, or only have time for an hour or so? No problem, this is a self-guided experience, so take as long as you desire. It’s the perfect opportunity for families, nature lovers, or anyone looking for a peaceful moment outdoors.
👟 Bring: comfortable shoes, water, and curiosity
No booking needed — just turn up and explore. It is free entry! (donations are welcome)

💚 Come along to explore, learn, and connect with Malta’s wildlife at Għadira Nature Reserve and Simar Nature Reserve before visits pause for the summer to protect breeding birds and allow for essential maintenance works.
