Date: Saturday, 2 April 2022
Time: 18:30-20:30
Location: It-Torri l-Abjad (White Tower)
Join our Falko youth group as we head out for an evening stroll at the northernmost tip of Malta, at the historically significant It-Torri I-Abjad (White Tower).
We will be given a tour of the 17th Century historical tower, with access to the roof terrace which boasts incredible views across to Comino and Gozo. The views will be particularly stunning as we will be there at sunset. We will also be given a talk by one of BirdLife Malta’s LIFE PanPuffinus! project team members about the significance of the this area for seabirds, particularly the vulnerable Yelkouan Shearwaters and the threats that these birds face. Such threats include light pollution along the coastlines of Malta which will be the focus of this event. This location is a great spot to hear the calling of these shearwaters as they approach the cliffs at sundown to nest, so we will head off for a nighttime walk along the coast to L-Irdum tal-Madonna to listen out for the Yelkouan Shearwaters to finish off the evening event.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about seabirds, light pollution and the historical significance of It-Torri I-Abjad (White Tower) as well as network with like-minded nature-loving young people.
Bring along a redlight torch if you have one and wear comfortable footwear.
