April 10, 2018 4:59 pm

Date:            Saturday, 21 April 2018

Time:           16:00 – 20:00

Location:    L-Aħrax tal-Mellieħa (meeting at the Chapel of Immaculate Conception)

Be a nature hero and help us clean the litter from L-Aħrax tal-Mellieħa!

This area is one of Malta’s richest Natura 2000 protected sites – these are sites that host some of the most threatened habitats and species in Europe. At the Rdum tal-Madonna site near L-Aħrax tal-Mellieħa, there is a colony of around 500 pairs of Yelkouan Shearwater – a species listed as ‘vulnerable‘ by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). These seabirds breed every year in these cliffs so it is crucial to keep the area litter-free! LIFE Arċipelagu Garnija, a BirdLife Malta EU-funded project, aims at securing the Maltese Islands for the Yelkouan Shearwater. You can help their important efforts too by participating at the cleanup!

After the cleanup, we will guide people how to use a scope and see if they can spot any birds that are flying around! There will also be a short presentation where you will learn more about the important work our LIFE Arċipelagu Garnija project carries out.
