BirdLife Malta’s annual Walk for Nature is just around the corner!
Walk for Nature encourages children and families to enjoy spending time outdoors in the beautiful Maltese spring and raise awareness for the importance of nature conservation. This year, the walk will start at Roman Villa in Rabat and finish at Xemxija near Simar Nature Reserve.
Our theme this year is ‘wildlife homes’ and we will be looking out for all the different habitats we can see along the way! Our wildlife experts will also be on hand to explain what lives where!
The event is organised to help raise funds towards BirdLife Malta’s efforts to support educational resources that connect young people with nature. This year, we hope to raise enough money to buy cameras for our nature reserves, enabling us to provide live camera feeds of the daily occurrences! These cameras will be placed close to nests or popular feeding areas so we can gain a close insight and new perspective of the wildlife living there.
At the end of the walk, children will be rewarded with gift bags containing merchandise such as pin badges and posters from BirdLife Malta. There will be a prize-giving ceremony in which the highest donations will win awards for their amazing sponsorship effort! The first prize will be The Natural History of the Maltese Islands book with stunning pictures and details donated to us by Book Distributors Limited (BDL), second prize a pair of binoculars and Għasafar Madwarna, and third prize Wild Flowers of the Maltese Islands and Għasafar Madwarna.
