Public Engagement Officer: Call for Applications
Deadline 13th September 2026
BirdLife Malta is looking for a passionate, organised and people-oriented Public Engagement Officer to join our team.
The role focuses on environmental education and public engagement, with a particular focus on coordinating the Dinja Waħda programme in primary schools, strengthening engagement with middle and secondary schools, supporting teacher training and school visits, coordinating volunteers, and developing activities that connect children, young people and communities with nature.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in education, environmental studies, communications, youth work, community engagement or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Has experience in education, outreach, public engagement, youth work or community engagement, including working with children and/or young people.
- Has experience planning and coordinating activities or programmes, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Can work collaboratively with schools, teachers, volunteers, community organisations and other stakeholders.
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with proficiency in Maltese considered a strong advantage, together with strong organisational, coordination and interpersonal skills.
- Can develop and deliver engaging educational and public engagement activities and communicate environmental topics in an accessible way.
- Is digitally confident and familiar with common communication and online tools.
- Can work independently and as part of a team, and is willing to work occasional evenings, weekends and public holidays when required.
- Shares BirdLife Malta’s commitment to connecting people with nature and protecting Malta’s natural environment.
Additional training in environmental education, teaching, youth work or project management would be considered an asset, as would experience in environmental education or conservation, NGO work, volunteer coordination, teacher training, communications or EU-funded projects.
A driving licence and willingness to drive for work purposes would also be considered an asset.
Contract: 2 years, full-time, with possibility of renewal

IT Conservation Assistant – European Solidarity Corps volunteering position
Deadline 30th September 2026
Could you use your IT skills to help protect Malta’s wildlife?
BirdLife Malta is looking for a motivated volunteer with IT skills to join our Conservation Department for a 12-month European Solidarity Corps placement from December 2026 to December 2027.
This is an opportunity to apply technology to real-world conservation challenges, working alongside conservationists, researchers and fieldworkers. The role will involve projects spanning web and system development, AI-assisted data digitisation, conservation databases, wildlife rescue systems, live bird cameras, networking and online bird-tracking tools.
You will also have opportunities to take part in fieldwork and technology installations, gaining first-hand experience of how IT and data are used to support bird conservation.
The position is open to 18–30-year-olds from eligible European Solidarity Corps countries and includes accommodation, travel reimbursement, insurance and a monthly allowance.
