Volunteering opportunities
Position: Conservation Assistant
Duration: 1st July 2025 – 1st May 2026 (10 months)
Join BirdLife Malta’s Conservation team to assist in vital conservation efforts, including bird rescue and care. The role involves:
- Responding to injured bird recovery calls
- Assisting with bird rehabilitation for release into the wild
- Maintaining records and ensuring excellent care standards
We’re looking for motivated individuals with experience or knowledge in biology, ecology, wildlife crime, or similar disciplines. A hands-on approach, flexibility to work irregular hours, and a valid driving licence are ideal.

Position: Communication Assistant
Duration: 1st April 2025 – 31st January 2026 (10 months)
BirdLife Malta is seeking a motivated volunteer to assist in raising the organisation’s profile through communications, media, and outreach. Duties include:
- Managing website content and social media platforms
- Coordinating newsletters, press releases, and magazine content
- Monitoring media coverage and compiling reports
Applicants should have an interest in nature, strong English skills, and proficiency in Mailchimp.

Position: Photography & Film Production Assistant
Duration: 1st July 2025 – 30th April 2026 (10 months)
BirdLife Malta is looking for a creative volunteer to assist in photography, video production, and design to promote our work. Duties include:
- Attending events as a photographer/videographer
- Editing photos, videos, and creating multimedia content
- Assisting in graphic design for printed and digital materials
Applicants should have an interest in nature, strong English skills, and proficiency in Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, and InDesign.

Position: Nature Reserves Visitor Assistant
Duration:
- 1st position: January 2025 – October 2025 (10 months)
- 2nd–4th positions: September 2025 – June 2026 (10 months)
Join BirdLife Malta’s team at our nature reserves (Għadira, Simar, Foresta 2000, and Salina) to ensure visitors enjoy a memorable experience. Duties include:
- Opening reserves, greeting visitors, and managing reception areas
- Promoting BirdLife Malta membership and managing the nature shop
- Assisting with visitor education, events, and basic research tasks
Training will be provided, and the role involves some physical work during periods when reserves are closed to the public.
