World Wetlands Day 2026 – Stories from the Wetland

Date: Sunday, 1 February 2026
Time: 10:00 – 14:00
Meeting point: Salina Wetland

Celebrate World Wetlands Day with BirdLife Malta at Salina Wetland, part of Salina Nature Reserve, through a day of stories, science, and exploration designed especially for children and families.

BirdLife Malta is proud to manage three of Malta’s most important wetlands – Għadira, Simar, and Salina. To mark this global celebration, we invite you to join us on Sunday, 1st February for a playful and educational event highlighting why wetlands matter and how they support life.

What’s happening on the day?

Children and families can:

  • Enjoy book readings and storytelling inspired by Maltese wetlands
  • Join mini guided tours of the wetland
  • Explore hands-on science activities, including simple water analysis
  • Take part in Wetlands Bingo and fun physical games

Visit our nature book corner, with special prices available on the day!

Storytime Highlight (Recommended age: 6–9)

Our featured book is a fun, cartoon-style story about Maltese wetlands and their inhabitants. Through humour and colourful illustrations, children discover birds, insects, plants, and water life — and learn why wetlands are so important. The story is brought to life during a short wetland tour right after the reading.

This relaxed, playful event is perfect for families looking to learn, explore, and enjoy nature together.

Come for the stories. Stay for the nature. Take a book home.

Let’s come together to celebrate wetlands and raise awareness of their vital role in supporting wildlife, water, and people — today and for future generations.

Entry is free but registration is required for the reading sessions!
