Date: Saturday, 12 April 2025
Time: 09:0013:00
Location: Salina Nature Reserve (Meeting Point)

It’s time for BirdLife Malta’s most popular annual event, Walk for Nature 2025!

Walk for Nature 2025 is being organised by the BirdLife Malta’s Public Engagement Team, assisted by our Events & Activities Group. During this fundraising event held to celebrate spring, school children, their parents and nature enthusiasts gather and challenge themselves to walk to raise awareness and money for conservation of nature.

Goal

The aim is to raise funds for BirdLife Malta’s nature conservation and public engagement efforts.

This year, the funds raised will directly contribute to our bird rehabilitation centre, the purchase of essential GPS trackers, and binoculars for school visits in the Nature Reserves.

Our rehabilitation centre provides critical care for injured and stranded birds, nursing them back to health before releasing them back into the wild. Some birds are even fitted with GPS trackers, allowing us to study their migration patterns and if they return to Malta. With the cost of running the rehab centre averaging €20 per day just for food and materials, purchasing basic GPS trackers with cost of €1,000 each, and new binoculars costing minimum of €200, every donation makes a difference!

By joining this walk, you are helping us safeguard Malta’s wildlife and invest in the future of bird conservation.

Route

This circular walk, approximately 7 km long, begins and ends at the scenic Salina Nature Reserve. As we set off, we’ll pass by the historic 17th-century Chapel of St. Michael before taking in the breathtaking views of Għajn Riħana, a picturesque valley rich in natural beauty. We will also pass by the Bird Park before completing the walk back at Salina Nature Reserve.

It’s an easy-to-moderate walk, but caution is advised as it could be slippery if wet. Children under 8 years must be accompanied by adults. Bicycles and scooters are not recommended!
