Did you know that owls don’t tear apart their meals? Instead, they swallow their prey whole! The indigestible parts—such as bones, feathers, and fur—are later regurgitated in the form of compact pellets. Over the years, we have collected a number of Short-eared Owl pellets from Malta, and now it’s time to uncover the fascinating secrets they hold.
We invite you to participate in our pellet dissection activity, part of our research on the ecology of Short-eared owls in Malta. The session will start with a presentation about birds’ ecology and their adaptations. This hands-on experience is designed for children and offers a fun way to learn about the anatomy of various animals. The dissection process is like a puzzle where children can reconstruct skeletons with guidance from our knowledgeable staff and volunteers.
Wishing to become a biologist for a day? Join us for our third edition of this activity!
The capacity is limited to just 30 children, so be sure to secure your spot! It is suitable for children aged 8 to 15 years old.
