Join our Facebook Live session to watch professional bird ringers examine and ring birds! We will be hosting a live stream of a bird ringing session by Nicholas Galea and Nimrod Mifsud at Għadira Nature Reserve as an anticipation of the EuroBirdwatch23 weekend of events that will be celebrated the following weekend.
What better way to celebrate the autumn bird migration than with a demonstration of this important scientific study which we carry out in Malta! Bird ringing is a vital scientific activity used to track and study bird populations, migrations, and behaviours. It involves attaching uniquely numbered rings to birds’ legs, creating a passport for these incredible creatures, and recording their journeys.
Bird ringing in Malta is carried out exclusively by the BirdLife Malta Ringing Scheme which is the only recognized EURING partner in Malta. Be sure to join our live stream and learn more about this exciting field of research that BirdLife Malta has been carrying out since 1965! It will be an opportunity to see birds up close whilst they are being ringed and there will also be the opportunity to ask questions to our licensed bird ringers over the event platform.
As you watch this captivating process, you can actively engage by asking questions and sharing observations. Ever wondered why some birds migrate long distances or how they find their way? This is your chance to learn from experts dedicated to solving these mysteries.
Follow us on Facebook to be notified when the bird ringing live stream starts! The session will be shown live in the FB event we’ve created, and we will also have a surprise at the end of the live stream!
