Date:            Sunday, 29 March 2020
Time:           08:30-12:00
Location:    Buskett (circular walk)

It is time for BirdLife Malta’s annual Walk for Nature again!

Our annual Walk for Nature encourages children and families to enjoy spending time outdoors in the beautiful Maltese spring and raise awareness for the importance of nature conservation. This year, the walk will be a circular one starting and ending at Buskett.

The event is organised to help raise funds towards BirdLife Malta’s conservation efforts. This year, with the money raised we will buy satellite tags for rehabilitated birds of prey. We aim to release the birds in the autumn equipped with these tags!

Prizes

Those who raise at least €5 will be given a goody bag and at the end of the walk there will be a prize-giving ceremony in which the highest three donations will win awards for their amazing sponsorship effort!

  1. The winner of the first prize will be invited to name the bird of prey which will be fitted with a satellite tag and will be given a Nature Explorer Kit (binoculars, eye loupes and bird identification sheets).
  2. The second prize will be our Birds of Malta memory game, a Flamingo soft toy and a colouring book.
  3. The third prize will be the book Għasafar Madwarna and a Flamingo soft toy.

Route

This year’s Walk for Nature is approximately 8km long and it will be a circular one starting from Buskett woodland’s parking area, going up Dingli Cliffs, then towards Ġebel Ċantar, up to Salib tal-Għolja (Laferla Cross), then across Girgenti Valley and back to the starting point at Buskett.

The 8km route is considered an easy/moderate difficulty one. Families with pushchairs can join since the large part of the walk is on easy terrain, except for a small part (downhill) near Laferla Cross where pushchairs may need to be carried for a short while.

We shall meet at 08:30 at Buskett’s parking area and the walk will commence at 09:00. The finishing point will be at the same area where we start the walk, at around noon.

Participation

Participation is free for those who raise funds. A donation of €5 is required for those who don’t raise funds (to be paid on site). The event is open to all and we encourage BirdLife Malta members and friends, together with schools to join in. Children under 8 years should be accompanied by an adult.

Transport

Since this year’s route is a circular one, there will be no need for additional transport arrangements. Participants can park at the main parking area at Buskett and we will return to the cars at the end of the walk. We encourage participants to plan a picnic at Buskett when the walk has finished.

Booking

To book fill in the google form here providing all the details requested.
