Become #SeabirdHeroes and help us clean up!
L-Irdum tal-Madonna is one of Malta’s Natura 2000 protected sites and hosts threatened habitats and species. Seabirds also breed in the surrounding cliffs every year so it is important to keep the area litter-free so as not to attract predators and reduce the amount of rubbish entering the sea! This is the largest colony of Yelkouan Shearwater in Malta with over 500 pairs returning each year so our cleanup efforts will be well worth making the homes for all these birds safer!
The event will start with a cleanup around the colony and camping area. We will then discuss the use of reusable equipment and utensils rather than single use plastics and will then raise awareness together to campers that they should take their litter home with them to dispose of it properly. We will then discuss how you can go a step further and become a seabird activist and how to raise awareness about the issues yourself!
Those that participate in the cleanup have a chance of winning a competition for free tickets to the Shearwater Boat Trip 2019 with additional evidence of change behaviour through using reusable products and responsible waste disposal.
We will have some reusable gloves to provide, but kindly bring your own if you have some.
